Statement of Intent

At Cockfield Primary School it is our aim to enable children to develop the skills, knowledge and vocabulary in a broad range of sporting activities, as well as developing values and transferrable life skills such as perseverance, respect and friendship – in line with our whole school values.

At Cockfield Primary School we recognise and value the importance of PE.  We aim to deliver an engaging, high quality curriculum that inspires pupils to strive for excellence, meet challenges and overcome barriers to success.  We achieve this fully adhering to the aims of the National Curriculum for Physical Education to ensure that all children:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy active lives

Our PE curriculum is designed to expose our pupils to a broad range of competitive sports and physically demanding activities. Progression of skills has been planned from Reception to Year 6 with the aim of reviewing existing or previously taught skills and building upon them in order to meet the end of Key Stage objectives in the National Curriculum. Our PE curriculum supports our commitment to empowering the children to make healthy lifestyle choices with regard to their physical and mental health.
